Effect on Combustion Properties of Coal Treated by Microwave Irradiation Combined with Sodium Hydroxide Solution

A Kentucky coal sample treated by microwave irradiation (MI) combined with sodium hydroxide solution was performed using a thermo-gravimetric analyzer (TGA) coupled to Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR). The combustion properties and structural changes of under different conditions were investigated compared. results show that the desulfurization efficiency samples increases increase concentration. Microwave can significantly improve efficiency. whole process becomes longer; performance worse. total mass loss is reduced, temperature corresponding maximum weight rate decreases spectra 5% basically unchanged, while O containing groups aromatic C-H increased in 20% solution.
